Heston's Fat Duck

Our one splurge for the the trip was to experience dinner at The Fat Duck.  The Fat Duck Heston Blumenthal's first restaurant.  It holds 3 Michelin Stars making it one of the best restaurants in the world.  At one time is was ranked as the best in the world it has now slipped to number 13.  The restaurant is located in the small quaint village of Bray which is roughly an hour west of London.

But firstly after we had finished with the Queen we decided to grab something to eat to hold us before our big meal.  Chris grabbed a sausage roll from Euston Station, or should we say pastry with a sprinkle of sausage!

We made our way out to Bray for our 8:30pm sitting.  There is no real signage to indicate that this little village house in the main street is a world class restaurant except for the knife, fork and spoon hanging above the door.

We entered and were met with a cosy setting with only enough room for 40 guests.  The staff were very helpful and discussed the whole meal with us in order to accommodate Jess's dietary requirements.  To begin the proceedings we were presented with a beetroot ball with a horseradish filling.

There is the option to pair the meal with wine we opted out of this and went for a bottle of wine instead.  We wanted a wine with would complement the whole menu and discussed our tastes with the Sommelier.  We were recommended a German Riesling.  This wine was sweet with out being too sweet it was smooth and was like drinking a glass of cordial, there was no bite and had underlying peach flavours.

And so the 15 course tasting menu began.
Red Cabbage Gazpacho
Pommery Grain Mustard Ice Cream

Nitro Poached Aperitifs
Vodka and Lime Soda, Gin and Tonic, Campari Soda
This dish consisted of a meringue made with liquid nitrogen, as such it does not last long and you are instructed to eat it immediately hence no photos.  Chris had campari soda and Jess had Gin and Tonic

Sound of The Sea
To start this dish off we were given a shell with earphones poking out of it, we were instructed to put the earphones in our ears and that this would explain everything about our meal.  All we could hear was the sounds of the sea.  The rest of our dish consisted of what can only be described as a scene from the beach.  We had sea foam, sand, seaweed and sea creatures.
