The Cote d'Azur

We made our way to Milan for our overnight stay before we headed off to Antibes, on the Cote d'Azur. We arrived late into Milan and grabbed some dinner, finally Jess had some proper chicken and Chris opted for horse.

We had an early start to our next day down to the Cote d'Azur, rising at 6am we boarded the train with a connection at Ventimiglia close to the boarder of Italy and France.  Our train ran late and we only just made our connection which some people missed and then in the early afternoon we arrived in Antibes.  We caught a cab from the station to the hotel which we later found out has a bus stop just around the corner and tickets are 1 Euro each!  Given the distance from the hotel to the city centre and the amount of travel we had completed thus far we decided to spend the rest of the day at the hotel relaxing and swimming in the pool.  The French women both young and old were not afraid to sun bake topless, unfortunately for Chris's misfortune there was more tired leather on show than perky bounciness.

The next day we headed to the world's second smallest country Monaco, and its capital Monte Carlo home of the rich and famous. We took an hour train ride and then decided to walk the streets. First stop was the harbour, where all the lavish Yachts and a large cruise ship are moored.

Upon finishing with the harbour and dreaming that one day we might have a nice yacht like the ones we saw we headed to the casino, not before heading through the tunnel and some corners where the Grand Prix race goes.

We finally reached our destination of the Monte Carlo Casino where Ferrari's, Porches, Rolls Royce's Aston Martin's and Bentleighs were parked. Given the amount of yachts and supercars we have never seen so such money in one place. After taking some photos of us with our dream cars we decided to have a bite to eat next to the Casino at the Cafe de Paris.  This would turn out to be the most expensive lunch we have had.  For two club sandwiches it cost us 30 Euro and they were not large either followed by two drinks so in total a meal of 65 Euro, so for all you aussies that is around $91 for two people.

It was very hot and humid in Monaco and after a couple of hours we decided to head back to Antibes and to the beach that was recommended by our hotel.  We were very disappointed. Australia is definitely spoilt with beaches, this beach had glass, cigarette butts, wood, some rubbish and the water was too cold for us, but apart from that there was still a crowd both sunbathing and swimming, needless to say we just dipped our feet in the Mediterranean and left.

The Cote d'Azur is littered with beaches of either sand or stone and while travelling on the trains we noticed that the best sandy beaches are covered with deck chairs which one must hire.  As we walked back through the streets of Antibes we stopped for gelati and a large chocolate macaroon.

Having missed the chance for a proper swim in the med and still with time before dinner we jumped in the pool back at the hotel for once last dip.

With our batteries some what recharged it was now time to get back on the road.  We awoke the next day and boarded a train bound for Geneva, capital of Switzerland.
